Clean Gutter Math
While cleaning out my shop gutters today I was working on a math formula that would predict the chance of a neighbor having a tree with just the right size leaves to clog your gutters. Not so small that they just float away and not so large as to be easy to remove.
So, I would need to know the chance of it being the right type of tree and the chance that the tree has grown tall enough so the leaves can fall down into said gutters and/or onto the roof serviced by said gutters.
The chance of the wind blowing in the correct direction and the traction the leaves get on my roof. Not much traction is needed, turns out that it’s just wishful thinking that the leaves will blow off a roof.
What is the chance of rain once your gutters are full of leaves of just the right size to prevent good water flow?
Turns out no formula is needed as it’s 100% certain that all this will happen.
Give Me Fuel, Give Me Fire #54
In Episode 54 of Deep Thinking, racers Michael Gougis and Ed Sorbo analyze the 2016 Yamaha MotoGP bike and its fuel tank. Spec And Span #53
Racers Ed Sorbo and Michael Gougis confab at Auto Club Speedway, joined by the one, the only, the
legendary Tony “Bad News Travels Fast” Serra. A discussion ensues about spec racing. Gougis makes a bid for genius status, based on Kawasaki’s introduction of the new Winter Test Edition ZX-10R. Sorbo refuses to discuss a disturbing picture of an umbrella “girl.” Serra adds immense coolness just by being there.

Beyond Good And Evil #52
In Episode 52 of Deep Thinking, the motorcycle road racing podcast that takes itself too seriously, racers Ed Sorbo and Michael Gougis pat themselves on the backs for a year of Interweb entertainment and Hickory Farms snacks. A discussion ensues about bad Honda road racing machines, and why it’s good for engineers to get it wrong every now and then.
There was a NR with the frame MG talks about but the photo of the tube frame is better, we are both correct.
#3 Tommy Heller on his GSXR750, leads #11 Ed Sorbo and #12 Emory Wood into The Sweeper at Hawaii Raceway Park back in the day.

Schrodinger’s Tiki
While making lunch just now I started thinking about how to get Thanksgiving leftovers for Tiki and how much he will like them. I looked out the window and there he was, staring at my door. Did I bring him to me or did he make me look out the window? Was he even there before I looked? Either way, he got more Hickory Farms cheese and I bet he knows all about Thanksgiving. “The neighborhood dog“, something to be thankful for.
“I Was Out Of Ideas” #51
In episode 51 of Deep Thinking, Ed Sorbo and his side kick (MG was not here to write this) banter about a question sent by Cody Burton, 500 GP bikes verses Moto GP bikes. This leads to more banter about: racing gear, Tiki treats, Moto GP wings, jumping out of a C-17, carburetors and lower cost race bikes. While MG’s attempt to snack and talk simultaneously does not go well.

Phrase of the Day
“Unexpected grandeur.” Is the phrase of the day, use it people.
Restored Tire
I found this tire in the trash pile at a race weekend. A club racer gave it up for dead. The vendor let me have it for a test. When a tire is this bad, it’s difficult to adjust the suspension, rider and/or psi to solve the problem. I wondered if putting a destroyed tire onto a properly set up bike with correct psi could clean the tire up. Here it is, mounted on my 600 riding at 90% at CVR after 10 laps:
After 3 rides:
It’s not the tires fault, it’s your suspension.
