I was at Edwards AFB yesterday for a photo shoot that is part of a story I’m working on for Roadracing World.
This is a SR-71 that has nothing to do with the story.
The SR-71 is a little faster than your motorcycle, but only once it’s off the ground. In fact it can go more than three times the speed of sound. The reasons it can do this are many and one of the keys are the Pratt & Whitney J58-P4 engines. These engines use afterburner all the time and are two engines in one. At lower speed it works as a turbojet but at higher speeds the turbojet just idles while the ramjet part takes over.
Us gear heads can never drive past cool stuff like this.
